Relationship Skills Coaching
A happy, supportive, and successful relationship is one of the most exhilarating experiences you can have. A failed relationship can be one of the most devastating.
Many relationships fail because they are based on the faulty premise that the purpose is to find “my better half.” As the Brenda Lee song goes, “Where is this someone, somewhere meant for me?” Someone who makes me feel whole. Someone who tells me I’m attractive, says I’m special, proves I’m good enough, and only has eyes for me.
In truth, I can’t expect someone else to make up for what I feel is lacking in myself. I can’t expect someone else to love me if I don’t love myself. If I have little regard for myself then (paraphrasing Groucho Marx) “anyone who would choose me as a mate I wouldn’t want to marry.”
Rather than focusing on finding the right partner, it is more important to work on being the right partner. Through this coaching process you will come to realize that changing yourself is easier and more effective than trying to change someone else.
Since working on your relationship with yourself is a prerequisite for having a relationship that works, Relationship Skills Coaching includes separate sessions for each of you individually, in addition to joint sessions with the two of you together. You will learn to navigate your way through issues such as authenticity, intimacy, respect, trust, and commitment, and you will discover how to co-create a relationship where the profound, life-enhancing awareness of loving and being loved is ever-present.
